Greetings,
Lots of things I wanted to update you guys on but the biggest one is a reminder that this Sunday is Youth Sunday, our younger disciples have been working hard to prepare a meaningful service for everyone so I am giving you all an extra reminder to come on Sunday and support them, maybe even bring a friend with you!
Couple of other things to keep in mind ...
- Starting in June we are switching to our Summer Schedule, so on June 3rd worship will be at 9:30 and fellowship time will follow. I am exploring the possibility of having some sort of discussion group after worship, maybe to even talk about the sermon and give more chance for feedback. Let me know if you might be interested.
- One of the things we learned from our highly successful Pork Chop Dinner is that it would be could to have a committee to help organize our dinners and to pass along key learnings from year to year. We are looking for any volunteers of people who might be willing to help with the planning side of the dinners. This would mean meeting a couple of times before each dinner and maybe once after year dinner to talk about what worked, what did not work, and to outline plans for the next dinner. Our dinners are helpful fundraisers for our church (they raise about $2,000) and more importantly bring in community members to our church. Please help us make them a success.
- We are having an Outdoor Worship Service on June 17th (Father's Day). Anyone who is interested and wants to help plan for the event is invited to a special planning meeting on Tuesday at 4:00. If you would like to help but cannot come on Tuesday, let me know.
- The United Way is starting a new service in Pope county to reach kids during the summer months. They are creating a mobile learning unit that will be traveling around to communities in the county to provide learning experiences for the kids. The idea is still being finalized but from what we understand they are looking for gently used children's books as donation to help them get started. Please stay tuned for more information about how we can support them.
- Sunday May 27th (Memorial Day weekend) is Pentecost. There is an old tradition in the church of wearing red on that Sunday in honor of the Holy Spirit and the Pentecost experience ... so start planning your fun red outfits now as we look forward to celebrating the presence of God in our midst.
