Glenwood United
Parish is committed to faithful discipleship. To that end we shall
prepare ourselves to proclaim, share and spread the Word of God; inspire
and nurture a personal relationship with God, through Jesus Christ; and
demonstrate our care and concern for one another and the world through
ministries of fellowship and mission outreach.
Glenwood United
Parish represents the 1971 merger of Union Congregational United Church
of Christ of Glenwood and Glenwood United
Methodist Church. Prior to this merger, many members of the Presbyterian
Church in Sedan had joined Union Congregational Church and many members
of the Grove Lake United Methodist Church had joined Glenwood United
Methodist Church when those churches closed in 1966.
The members of United Parish
represent a wide variety of church backgrounds and a wonderful diversity
of opinions and personal styles. This harmonizes well with our two
denominations, both of which have a recent history of openness to and
welcoming of a wide variety of different types of people and different
styles of Christian thought.
In keeping with
our history, we are proud to be a cooperative ministry, which means we
are aligned with both the United Church of Christ and United Methodist
Denominations. We find that having access to both the personnel and
institutional resources of two denominations is a great blessing to us.
(Members of United Parish are not asked to choose whether they will
consider themselves UCC or UMC.) |
