Greetings,
I hope everyone is enjoying the nice break from winter we are having ... or does it count as a break if we never really had winter?
Couple of things I wanted to highlight for this week. First of all, a huge thank-you to everyone who was able to give a little extra in the last week. As I mentioned in the last weekly email and on Sunday, we were dealing with some tight finances at the end of the month. Thanks to people's willingness to give we were able to meet all our expenses for January and the start of February with a little extra to help us out. It is amazing how everyone is able to support the church. I really appreciate it.
We are starting several small groups at the end of February and I encourage everyone to seriously look at being a part of one of them. The one I am most excited about is a group that meets over lunch on Monday (I hope that time works for some people). It will be a chance for some constructive dialogue about the upcoming scriptures and help in the shaping of the sermon. It is a great way to do some Bible study AND be a part of what goes on in worship. Here are all the groups
1) Unbinding Your Heart Study: This book can function for both a personal devotional and a small group experience. The book helps us explore our faith and grow more comfortable with how we can talk about it to others. Meets Thursdays at 5:00 pm starting February 23rd.
2) Sunday Scripture Study: Get together on Monday over lunch (noon) and talk about the scripture for the upcoming week. Meet with Pastor Jeff and go in depth in the topics that lie ahead or ask some follow-up questions from the last sermon. This is a great chance to go deeper into the material covered during the sermons. Meets Mondays at Noon starting February 20th.
3) Lenten Soup and Video Discussion: During Lent we will be gathering to have a soup supper, watch a short video and talk about the ideas presented in it. Each week will feature a different topic and a different type of soup. Dinner will be served at 5:30 and the video and conversation will start at 6:00. Meets Wednesdays at 5:30 starting February 29th.
We are also asking people to try and do some sort of devotional for Lent. I will have several examples available on a table outside the sanctuary this week. So start thinking about what you might want to do in Lent.
Have a great weekend and see you Sunday,
